Helping You Feel Your Best Before, During, & After Cancer Treatment
The MemorialCare Cancer Institute is proud to offer nutrition counseling for oncology patients using the evidence-based practice of medical nutrition therapy provided by registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs). Our RDNs provide individualized, in-depth nutrition counseling for the management of symptoms and side effects related to cancer and cancer treatment.
The role of the dietitian also includes the diagnosis and management of malnutrition, and recommendations for nutrition support such as enteral or parenteral nutrition. Nutrition counseling is also offered for patients after treatment to assist with nutrition education, management of chronic conditions impacted by nutrition and weight management. Our RDNs go beyond expectations to provide continued nutrition follow-up care without a limit on the number of visits to ensure our patients get the help they need to improve their nutrition status.
Common symptoms and side effects that may be managed through nutrition include:
- Altered taste and smell
- Poor appetite
- Unintentional weight loss
- Constipation
- Diarrhea
- Bloating and gas
- Fatigue
- Nausea and vomiting
- Dry mouth and thick saliva
- Mucositis, stomatitis, or esophagitis
Cancer patients may also benefit from our Integrative Oncology Program, which embraces the synergy of mind, body, and spirit alongside conventional treatment.
