About
Dr. Sy was glad to return home to Orange County for his internship and residency program at UCI Medical Center. During his residency, he was a Chief Resident in internal medicine overseeing newer residents' training. Additionally, Dr. Sy also completed a three year post graduate fellowship in Gastroenterology at Kaiser Hospital in Los Angeles.
Originally, Dr. Sy thought he would follow his "family of scientists" into a laboratory research field, but after working in a lab for a while, he found that clinical work involving patient contact better suited him.
I chose Gastroenterology because I enjoy the opportunity to perform procedures and still get to know my patients over a period of time. I know it sounds cliche, but I really do enjoy caring for patients. I like to see people get better!
Dr. Sy is board certified in gastroenterology.
Dr. Sy has volunteered his time and skills on numerous occasions including New Orleans Hurricane Katrina post hurricane Relief. In addition to volunteering, he likes to play and/or watch basketball and tennis, and spend time with family, friends, and his dog, Milo.
As a specialist, Dr. Sy may not be selected as a primary care physician. Accepts patients age 18 and over.

Doctor Sy was focused on me at my stage in life.This would be my last colonoscopy. Colonoscopies can possibly result in puncture of the wall of the colon and as we age this possibility is larger. He wanted me to understand that. He also knew that my colon had more bends than normal and that meant it was more difficult to clean it out completely. So, he wanted me to spend three days prior to the operation on Miralax and the last day on Ducolax in order to accomplish that.
