About
I chose a career in medicine because of my desire to help others and my passions for problem solving and science. I specialized in Neurology because of the complexity and unique challenges presented by neurological disorders. I look forward to working with my patients to help them improve the health quality of their lives.
Dr. Patel earned a bachelor’s degree in behavioral science and health and a Master’s degree in Public Health from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City prior to entering medical school.
Through the University of Utah, Dr. Patel participated in Field Studies in Thailand and Peru, and acted as Student Director for a Service Learning project in India. During his residency and Fellowship, he conducted lectures and symposiums on a variety of neurological topics such as neurodegenerative disorders and epilepsy. Within Neurology, Dr. Patel has special interests in: Headache Disorders, Neuropathy, Neuromuscular Disorders, Epilepsy, and Electrodiagnostic studies such as EMG and Nerve Conduction studies. Among his many honors, he received the Neurology Resident Excellence Award while at UCI.
When not in the office, Dr. Patel enjoys playing and watching a number of different sports including: basketball, football, skiing and biking.
As a specialist, Dr. Patel may not be selected as a primary care physician. Dr. Patel accepts patients age 18 and over.

Outstanding, Dynamic NeurologistI have been seeing Dr. Patel for idiopathic neurology for almost two years and find him to be totally knowledgeable, with excellent communication skills, and open to alternative forms of treatment rather than just writing a prescription and hoping for the best. He explained my nerve conduction test results in great detail, discussed both pharmaceutical and supplements as considered approaches to treatment, and has followed up with my improvement every six months. He is cutting edge in his specialty. I would highly recommend him to anyone suffering from nerve-related diagnoses that require and informed approach to treatment.

The doctor was pretty good about asking questions and trying to understand.
One thing that I feel he could improve on is listening to and addressing the concerns I had about using contrast with my MRIS that he had ordered. I told him that I feel it can be dangerous. But he dismissed my concerns.
As a responsible doctor he should have taken the opportunity to explain to me the possible dangers with contrast. But he did not do that. And I know in fact there are definitely dangers that should be considered, as contrast stays in the body and even in the brain, potential health problems can result. Even at the doctor does not agree that it is dangerous, the research shows that it is.

Pastel’s area of practiceI never got a visit. I scheduled 1 1/2 months out. I have back problems and nerve deficits associated. I’m in chronic severe pain and was looking forward to a new opinion. A day before the scheduled date I was called and told Dr. Patel does not treat conditions like this. Perhaps a front office issue but it was extremely disappointing and threw me back into depression.It seems to me that at the time of booking these decisions would be made-not the day beforeI have now wasted 1 1/2 months spent in pain.Apparently there is no patient customer service

I'm surprised by all the positive reviews by this doctor. My VA claim for migraines was assigned to him for evaluation. He called me and I explained to him I was at work. He told me it would only take a few minutes. He asked me questions regarding my headaches and migraines which started while I was on active duty military. Within the 3 short minutes, I can't believe he made a less than favorable opinion to my disability claim. How does someone come up an opinion that my headaches aren't service connected? Now my claim is being evaluated to see if my headaches and migraines were caused from being deployed to the gulf. I can't believe my claim is being assigned to this doctor again for his opinion. For someone who gets rave reviews about his knowledge and experience, I feel like he didn't give me a positive opinion. I served my time in the military and never had these headaches and migraines before joining. I've dealt with them during active duty and after separation from the military. I believe it's service connected and it has but a damper on my personal life and work life. I hope the second time around, this doctor will see how it has affected my life in a negative way since having the headaches in the military.
