About

Christopher Tan, MD is a Fellowship-trained pediatric interventional cardiologist with 30 years of experience in caring for children and more specifically, for their hearts. “I wanted to work in a field where I could help improve children’s lives, and I felt that helping to treat children’s heart disease would make the biggest impact,” he states. “I get the greatest professional satisfaction when I see a child who has been struggling to perform activities because of limitations caused by their heart disease, be able to lead a normal active life after having their heart disease repaired.”

“I will treat your child as if he or she were my own child. I always make an effort to personally return any phone calls I receive from my patient’s families because I understand how important the health of their child’s heart is to them.”

Dr. Tan was born in Indonesia and moved to Southern California when he was five years old. “I grew up in Whittier and Fullerton and only left Southern California for three years, when I did

my pediatric cardiology fellowship in San Francisco,” he notes. His professional relationships are also marked by local longevity. “I have trained or worked at Miller Children’s Hospital since 1996 starting as a medical student, then as a pediatric resident, and finally as an attending pediatric cardiologist. Several of the pediatricians that initially trained me have become lifelong colleagues and friends.”

Dr. Tan is Board Certified in pediatric cardiology. He has published articles in several cardiology journals and has participated in various research projects. His areas of clinical interest and expertise including pediatric and adult congenital interventional cardiac catheterization, echocardiography, hypertension and lipid management.

During his time away from treating childrens’ heart issues, Dr. Tan enjoys playing golf, watching movies and sports, fantasy football and fantasy baseball, and trying new foods and restaurants with his wife and two daughters.
