The nurses at Orange Coast Medical Center continually stand out as they demonstrate MemorialCare’s vision: Exceptional people. Extraordinary care. Every time. Their remarkable impact on patient care serves as a reminder that excellence begins with these frontline heroes and supporting their professional growth with scholarships is very important.
Every year in celebration of National Nurses Week, the Foundation awards five nurses with the Shela Kaneshiro Scholarship to support their pursuit of advanced clinical certifications. The scholarship was established by visionary supporters Shela Kaneshiro, who previously served as the hospital’s chief nursing officer and vice president of patient care services, and her husband Dean.
This philanthropy-supported scholarship is a testament to how clinical education plays an integral role in Orange Coast’s designation as a Magnet® hospital since 2016 — the highest recognition in nursing earned by only 8% of hospitals nationwide.
If you want to learn more on how to support nursing scholarships call the Foundation at (714) 378-7889.
Congratulations to our 2025 awardees of the
