More than 100 expecting moms and their partners visited The Women’s Hospital at MemorialCare Saddleback Medical Center for a special open house, where they toured the hospital and met with certified nurse midwives, the maternity concierge, nurses, pelvic health therapists, and OBGYNs.
Guests went on nurse guided tours of the newly refreshed Labor, Deliver, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP) suites, visited the Obstetric Emergency Department (OB ED), and learned more about the Level III Irma Feldcamp Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) – conveniently located on the same floor as the LDRP suites.
“I loved seeing all that Saddleback Medical Center had to offer,” says Mary Patterson, a guest at The Women’s Hospital open house. “I’m expecting my first baby and I’m so excited to be working with the certified nurse midwives for my care. From the moment you enter Saddleback, everything just feels so calm and homey, and I feel truly taken care of. Delivering at The Women’s Hospital is the one thing about my delivery I’m not worried about.”
During the tour, moms saw the newly renovated LDRP suites, thoughtfully designed to support mother-baby bonding and ensure maternal comfort. The suites feature large windows for natural light, Bluetooth speakers, lavender-scented towels, a labor relief cart, freshly baked cookies, and a celebration brunch. They also include peanut balls and rocking chairs to support mobility during labor, with six suites equipped with relaxing soaking tubs.
“In addition to comfort amenities, we are deeply committed to best practices and quality initiatives, driven by research and outcomes, that set us apart in Orange County. We’ve implemented research-driven protocols to reduce infection rates and support vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC), empowering women with safe, evidence-based childbirth options.”

To support unexpected high-risk pregnancy, a tour of the OB ED ensured expecting moms could have peace of mind that they would be in a quality-first hospital should the need arise. The OB ED provides care for obstetrical patients over 16 weeks pregnant and up to six weeks postpartum, by a specialized team of OB ED nurses and board-certified OBGYN hospitalists who evaluate, treat, and discharge as needed. If a patient requires further care or observation, the OB ED team coordinates her transition to the appropriate area within the LDRP suites.
During the NICU portion of the tour, nurses provided education just outside the unit, helping families understand where their newborns may receive additional care, should it be needed.
Beyond the tour, guests also had the opportunity to connect with a wide range of support providers, including maternity concierge services, pelvic health therapists, certified nurse midwives, OBGYNs, lactation consultants, and important community resources such as The Mommy Center, which provides complimentary parenting classes to support mom with babies from 0 to 6 months old.
“Connecting with families and helping make their pregnancy journey more seamless is truly a privilege,” says Jessica Ayala, maternity concierge, The Women’s Hospital, Saddleback Medical Center. “Events like the open house add another layer of support, allowing families to meet their future care team and see where they’ll be delivering before baby arrives.”
The open house at The Women’s Hospital is just one of many opportunities for expecting moms to become familiar with the comprehensive care available at Saddleback Medical Center.
