Recently, the MemorialCare Heart & Vascular Institute combined a night of ballpark fun with the powerful message of heart health awareness. This special evening offered guests more than just the excitement of watching the Los Angeles Angels play; it emphasized the institute’s unwavering commitment to educating the community on heart and vascular health.
By partnering with Pacific Health and Wellness, MemorialCare Heart & Vascular Institute set up four blood pressure screening stations before the game. Attendees were able to get free blood pressure checks, resulting in a total of 144 screenings by the end of the night. This served as an important reminder of the significance of maintain healthy blood pressure levels, as hypertension is a leading risk factor for heart disease and stroke.
MemorialCare is proud to be the Official Health Care Partner of Angels Baseball. Since 2019, this partnership has allowed for a meaningful impact on the health and wellness of Angeles fans, as well as the larger Orange County and Los Angeles County communities. Together, they’ve raised awareness about critical health issues like cardiac health, cancer, and other life-altering conditions.
This collaboration extends beyond MemorialCare Heart & Vascular Institute’s three location, bringing essential health information directly to the public in a fun and engaging setting. The evening kicked off with a traditional first pitch, with Jeffrey Lung, the Emergency Department Clinical Supervisor at MemorialCare Orange Coast Medical Center. With seventeen years of dedication to his role, Jeff is highly respected by both his colleagues and providers he collaborates with. A passionate Angels baseball fan, Jeff frequently organizes group outings to Angels games, fostering team activities and unity among employees. His commitment to his work and team is evident of his efforts to encourage camaraderie and teamwork within the department. This is critical with the high-pressure environment of an emergency department.

The spotlight of the evening then turned to Verbhert Maliim, a Clinical Supervisor for Cardiovascular Services at Orange Coast Medical Center, who participated in the festivities with his family. His 13-year-old son, James, had the opportunity to steal third base as part of the MHVI Night festivities.
During one half-inning, MemorialCare Heart & Vascular Institute’s message of heart health awareness was prominently displayed on five large LED boards throughout the stadium. This visual engagement was done in efforts to reach to as many people as possible with critical information about heart disease prevention and the importance of regular cardiovascular check-ups.
