At Orange Coast gratitude looks different for everyone. No matter the reason, each act of generosity strengthens the community and builds a healthier future. And behind every gift is a personal story of inspiration, like those of Jackie and Vicky Shen and Peter Swanson, who remind us how powerful it can be when kindness comes full circle.

Jackie and Vicky Shen

Jackie and Vicky ShenSisters Jackie and Vicky share a deep commitment to Orange Coast, each bringing a unique perspective on why giving back matters through professional and personal experiences. Jackie, whose career at Orange Coast began within the finance department, but later found her true calling as a nurse within our intensive care unit, knows firsthand how generosity can enhance patient care. For Vicky, the connection began with her career in the medical device industry supporting innovation from a corporate perspective. But philanthropy has given her more direct, meaningful involvement. Personal experiences, such as when their mother received care at Orange Coast, reaffirmed their passion for the critical role of philanthropy in serving local families and their loved ones. The Shen sisters’ extension of gratitude is about honoring those who dedicate themselves to the well-being of others and helping ensure Orange Coast continues to thrive.

Peter Swanson

Peter Swanson For decades, Fountain Valley resident Peter Swanson has seen Orange Coast Medical Center as a constant source of care for the community — even for himself. Within a fourmonth period in 2023, Peter experienced quadruple bypass surgery, a double ablation and months of cardiac rehabilitation. Although a vulnerable chapter in his life, he was grateful for the compassionate, high-level care he received from his cardiac team and was inspired to find a meaningful way to give back. Today, Peter is a dedicated weekly volunteer at Orange Coast in the cardiovascular observation unit to honor the lifechanging care he received. His playful personality and warm spirit constantly bring smiles to staff and patients, creating moments of joy during emotional times. Peter’s story is a testament to gratitude in action, transforming a personal journey into compassionate service for others. Orange Coast is grateful for the hundreds of volunteers, like Peter, who bring joy and laughter to those who walk through our doors.
